I would like to go for sturgeon and blue catfish in the main channel and flatheads and channel cats everywhere else. Ill probably get a couple rods n reels. I need something that can cast out far and hold plenty of line to go where I need and can handle some heavy duty fish. Any suggestion and tips would be appreciated, Thanks
I was thinking about a Abu Garcia Low Profile Baitcast Reel.
If not a low profile bait casting reel then a round reel or spinning reel?
I’m looking into buying this as a gift and would like to spend around $150-$300. I’ve been searching around on the Cabelas, Bass Pro Shop websites but its making me more confused as I dont know much about fishing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
So far this month the weather has been typical — cool and then warm. We have dropped down to as low 48 degrees, but highs have beenin the low 80s at times. The water temperature has responded by dropping through the 70s and is now setting at 68 degrees.

I am 18 and chronically ill and because of this won’t have a job. I plan on living on a boat for the rest of my life but before I get the boat I plan on saving up some money for fishing gear so I will have something to do. I live in Florida and don’t plan on fishing any specific thing and have a budget slightly more than 2k I want to know what pole, real and all the gear I will need to make this work be sure to take into account will have a lot of free time on my hands so this gear is probably going to be used a lot . Thank you for your time ![]()
@Ole Fisherman
Yes I have about $2000 total (I know it’s not a lot and could get more but want to get out of my parents hair as soon as possible.) I mainly will be fishing off shore and always in salt water. I plan on mostly trolling and, will be fishing in the gulf of Mexico and the Tampa bay on an occasion I will need help with lures but can take care of bait. I can also take care of outfits and I really have no particular fish I want to go after.
