@mikeconcannon whats a good knot to tie line to a spool?
February 22nd, 2012 at 8:40 am
@iluvfatchx Fine lines do make tying any knots a little more fiddly. I have to use my spectacles to tie them with certainty. I guess it’s a sign of old age in my own case.

@iluvfatchx I’ve never used a grinner knot for tying a line to the spool of a reel. There are far easier knots which you can use to do that.

its so easy to tie these knots with bigger line but so difficult with small diam lines like 2,4, and even 6 lb test, but 12lb test and up its so much easier

I THOUGHT GRINNER KNOTS WERE FOR SPOOLING UR REEL

@hornet579 The Palomar Knot is great for attaching hooks and swivels, but it does not join two dissimilar lines successfully, which the Double Grinner is best suited to. If it works for you, then why fix it?
February 22nd, 2012 at 12:18 pm
@mikeconcannon That is also my theory, because I already use the palomar, why should I use a grinner if the palomar is the same? Thanks for responding, though.

@hornet579 It’s the best knot I have found for joining two dissimilar lines. It works for me. Why learn a different knot when one will do the job safely and securely.

Is this better for fluorocarbon than the improved clinch knot? By the way, very good, clear video. I tied it with ease thanks to you.

@door2yourheart I am not familiar with “Stroft”. It has worked fine with all braids, fluorocarbon and monos. Please let us all know how you get on with it. Much appreciated.

Nice clear vid, thank you!
Wonder if it will work with Stroft.

@fatelook The “Grinner” knot will do everything you ask of it. It really is 100% reliable. It will be fine on a 3-way swivel.

Thanks for the video, I’m definately going to try this knot a 3 way barrrel swivel. The improved clinch knot DOES NOT work on a swiviel but it looks like this one might.

@zach3445 Sorry for the delay in replying. I’ve been away for several days – angling!
You can use it to attach soft lures such as Shads or Redgills etc to your trace line no problem. I use it all the time.
If you want to use a lure such as a Rapala plug, then it may be easier to tie a small link swivel to the end of your line with a Grinner knot and clip your plugs onto that clip link.
I hope this will answer your question.
Cheers,
Mike

can you use this knot on lures?

@LayEmOut60 Please take a look at another of my Fishing Dartmoputh videos here on YouTube. I demonstrate a Uni knot in my video “How NOT to tie braid to leader”. It cuts back into itself and consequently breaks under tension.
The “Grinner” and “Double Grinner” are knots which do not cut into themselves and which preserve 100% of the line strength. That’s why I use it and recommend it.

Doesn’t this turn out to basically just be a uni knot? It seems like the original six wraps just come undone when you cinch it down, leaving the line wrapped around the inside of the loop, just like a uni knot. Maybe I’m missing something, but that seems like the case to me.

Thanks for the great tutorial! I’ve used this knot several times already since learning it – once to tie new line to my reel, and several more times to attach hooks, etc.
