Feds sink plan to ban bottom fishing off Florida, Georgia coast

The ban was the most sweeping component of a plan to protect red snapper populations, which government researchers once warned were dangerously overfished. It would have effectively closed fishing for dozens of other species from Central Florida to around Brunswick, Ga., to prevent accidental snapper catches.
